About
Dr. Harshad Patel is currently serving as the Campus Director of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Guwahati campus on deputation, and Senior Assistant Professor of the School of Engineering and Technology, NFSU Gandhinagar.
He earned his B.Sc. degree from Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University in 2002. He completed his M.Sc. in Materials Science (2004) and his Ph.D. in Nanotechnology/Materials Science (2010) from the Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat. His doctoral study was focused on the synthesis of carbon nanotubes via a novel route and the fabrication of aligned carbon nanotube-based nanocomposite materials using chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) techniques for various applications.
Dr. Patel has 13 years of Research and Academic experience in the field of Nanotechnology and Materials science and forensic application of Nanotechnology. Dr. Patel works in the area of synthesis, characterization of Nanomaterials, and applications of nanotechnology in forensic, environment, and composites fields. Some of the areas where he has contributed significantly include – the synthesis of aligned carbon nanotubes-based nanocomposites for thermal applications, Nanosensors for trace detection in the forensic field, development of nanotechnology-enabled body Armor materials, Nanosensors for detection and remediation of environmental pollutants.
Dr. Patel has been the recipient of the Junior Research Fellowship of DST and the Meritorious Research Fellowship of UGC. He also received a Senior Research Fellowship from the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi to carry out a research project entitled Development of Nano techniques and technology for fingerprint detection and Identification of toxic trace materials in biological matrices. He has also worked as a mentor for students Start-up Innovation Policy (SSIP) of Gujarat state. Currently, he is working as a principal investigator in the Seed Money Project of NFSU to carry out research on nanotechnology-based body armor materials for defence applications.
Dr. Patel has published more than 35 research articles in various peer-reviewed journals, in books, and at various international and National Conferences in India and abroad.
Dr. Patel has supervised more than 30 master’s degree students and is currently, guiding 5 doctoral studies students at NFSU. He has been serving as an expert in various academic and administrative committees such as the Board of Studies, research progress committees, purchase committees, library, and anti-ragging committees. He has also served as the nodal officer of the scholarship cell for degree and doctoral studies students.
Dr. Patel has been a member of the Indian Carbon Society, Materials Research Society of India (MRSI), National Association for Chemical Security (NACS), and Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI)
