About

Dr. Sreelakshmi Krishna is an Assistant Professor at School of Forensic Science at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Chennai Campus.

Dr. Krishna earned her PhD in Forensic Science from National Forensic Science University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where her doctoral research, investigated the correlation between the physicochemical properties of gunshot residue (GSR) particles and factors such as distance, elapsed time, and ambient conditions. Her thesis work also included the development of a method to enhance the traceability of organic gunshot residue (OGSR) using Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) and involved extensive use of various instrumental techniques, such as SEM-EDS, Raman spectroscopy, ICP-MS, Trasoscan Laboratory Imaging System, Comparison Microscope, Streo Microscope Proscope, EDXRF etc. Prior to her doctoral studies, she completed an M.Phil. in Physics, where she worked on the development of tin-doped copper gallium sulphide thin films for solar cell applications, and an Integrated M.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics, where she worked on understanding the metal-oxide-based gas sensors carried out at CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi.

Her research has been published in journals including Forensic Science, Medicine and Pathology, Vibrational Spectroscopy, Journal of Nanoparticle Research, Heliyon, and the Egyptian Journal of Forensic Sciences, spanning topics such as the temporal stability of gunshot residue, trajectory-based approaches to identifying optimal GSR recovery zones, and detection technique reviews. Her work has been recognised with several honors, including the Best Shotgun Poster Presentation Award at the IVth International Caparica Conference in Translational Forensics (Lisbon, Portugal, 2024), the Best Young Researcher Award (2024) and Best Young Women Scientist Award (2023) at the International Conference on Forensic Research & Toxicology, and an ANRF International Travel Grant.

Her areas of interest include Physics, Thin Fil Technology, Forensic Physics & Ballistics, Gunshot Residue (GSR) Analysis, Material Science, Crime Scene Management, Instrumental techniques, etc
