About
Dr. Surbhi Mathur is currently
working as an Associate Professor at the School of Forensic Science, National Forensic
Sciences University. She is a UGC-JRF and completed her doctorate in Forensic
Voice Examination from Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, Gujarat. Her area
of specialization is Forensic Physical Sciences and Multimedia Forensics.
She has 10 glorious
years of teaching and Research Experience in forensic science. She has guided over
40 master-level dissertation projects and is supervising her PhD students in
forensic physical sciences. She is actively involved in imparting forensic
training to Senior Police officers, Probationary police officers, Hon’ble
Judicial Magistrates, Assistant Public prosecutors, CBI officials and police
officers coming from Nepal, Bangladesh, Rwanda, Ghana and Myanmar and officials
of other international countries. She has undergone several hands-on trainings
on various forensic tools and softwares organized by various government and
private sectors.
Dr. Surbhi Mathur has
presented a number of research papers in many prestigious national and
international conferences and has received several awards for the same. She is
currently having 22 research publications in various peer-reviewed and scopus
indexed journals. She has recently been awarded with a national research
project on title “Critical analysis of the effectiveness of CCTV in law enforcement
(crime prevention, detection traffic management etc)” by Bureau of
Police Research and Development, New Delhi in the year 2020.
She has been awarded with “Best Women
Faculty award” and “Young Researcher
Award” by Dept. of Forensic Science & Criminal Investigation, Legal
Desire Media and Insights during International Forensic Science & Criminal
Investigation Summit & Awards in year 2023 & 2020. Respectively. She
has also newly been honored with “Research Excellence Award” from
Institute of Scholars, registered under Ministry of MSME, Government of India,
in 2021.
She has received immense
Recognition for her dedicated work in the field of forensic science from the
Home Department, Government of Gujarat for examining and reporting live cases
on forensic voice spectrographic analysis since November 2014, and is also
responsible for reporting private cases and rendering opinions related to
forensic document examination, voice recognition, CCTV footage analysis, Image
enhancement, Audio Video & Image authentication. She is the 79 A certified
expert under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 program with STQC organized by Ministry of electronics
and information technology.
She was the member of 6 cyber experts
committee constituted by NFSU to assist Delhi Police in solving 26th
January farmer agitation case held at Lal Quila, New Delhi for providing
opinion related to CCTV footages and social media profiling. Due to her timely
analysis and immense expertise the suspects involved in the Delhi riots were
apprehended by the Delhi Police.
She also frequently
provides her assistance to CBI and Delhi Police in solving highly
confidential/top priority cases. Her contribution in providing the leads to CBI
in the examination of murder case of Dhanbad Judge in September, 2021 and the challenging
murder case of CBI Chandigarh has helped the investigation team enormously, in
the effective examination and investigation of the case.
She is known for her expertise in solving
cases by Crime Scene Reconstruction and
Photogrammetrical analysis, for which she has extensively traveled in
various parts of the country. Recently she has delivered a lecture on, “CCTV
Forensics”, in the prestigious 7th INTERPOL digital forensics expert group Meeting
organized by the INTERPOL Innovation Centre. She has also conducted various
training programmes on Multimedia Forensics for the Law Enforcement Agencies in
India and abroad.
