The National Forensic Sciences University, Delhi Campus organized a three-day Seminar & Workshop on Drug of Abuse for officers of Law Enforcement Agencies during 26-28 June 2023 in support of UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) initiative to mark 26th June every year as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The inauguration of the event was done in the august presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Padma Shri Dr. J.M. Vyas-NFSU; Prof. Purvi Pokhariyal, Campus Director, NFSU Delhi Campus; Chief Guest Dr.Kiran Bedi IPS, Former Lt. Governor of Puducherry; Guest of Honour Sh. Hari Om Gandhi, Sr. Comdt. CISF & Former Zonal Director Narcotics Control Bureau (Gujarat and UT of Daman & Diu); Joint organiser of the event Dr. Deepa Varma, Director FSL, Govt. of NCT, Delhi and Prof. R. K. Sarin on 26th June 2023 at NFSU Delhi Campus. The key points highlighted in the speech of all distinguished dignitaries were the focus that forensic science has a cardinal role in criminal justice system and there is an intense need that new advancements and technologies must be employed as a tool for checking crime in effective way. Honorable VC sir impressed upon the need of forensic techniques being employed in analysis of NDPS crime cases. Dr. Kiran Bedi, IPS discussed her anecdotal incidences of Navjyoti Drug - De Addiction Centre inhabitants and their journey to reformation. While Sh. Hari Om Gandhi stressed upon the need of NDPS crime prevention, identifying precursors to such crimes and preventing juveniles from getting into this conundrum as much as possible. Prof. Purvi Pokhariyal, Campus Director, NFSU DC also emphasized on the prodigious and stringent efforts made by law enforcement agencies in reducing this global menace. Dr. Deepa Varma, Director FSL, Govt. of NCT, New Delhi briefly discussed the problems encountered at laboratory in Drug abuse cases and the importance to supplement updated knowledge and technical know-how in problems of drug analysis can be solved through such seminars and workshops. Prof. R. K. Sarin (Chemistry), NFSU DC presented welcome address and detailed about the course programme.
