A landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The agreement aims to establish state-of-the-art Digital Forensic Laboratories for CBDT and extend comprehensive forensic services to further strengthen its investigative capabilities. The MOU was signed during their Annual Conference of Investigation Directorates and Central Charges held at NFSU, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The MoU was signed by Prof. (Dr.) S. O. Junare, Campus Director, NFSU Gandhinagar, and Shri Shashi Bhushan Shukla, CIT(Inv.), CBDT in the presence of Shri Ravi Agrawal, Chairman of CBDT, Dr. J. M. Vyas, Vice Chancellor of NFSU, Prof. (Dr.) Naveen Kumar Chaudhary, Campus Director, NFSU Goa Campus and Over 100 senior officials of Investigation Directorates. The signing of this MOU marks a significant step towards leveraging digital forensics to bolster the investigation and enforcement processes of CBDT. Both parties will engage in collaborative initiatives, including the establishment of forensic labs, capacity building through training, and the utilization of cutting-edge forensic technologies. Under this partnership, NFSU will provide tailored training programs to enhance the forensic expertise of CBDT officials, enabling them to handle complex investigations involving digital evidence. Additionally, this collaboration will facilitate mutual sharing of knowledge and technical expertise in forensic sciences, cyber security, and digital forensics. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) S. O. Junare emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, "This partnership will not only strengthen the forensic capabilities of CBDT but also pave the way for advanced technological interventions in tax investigations." The MOU is set to enhance the efficiency of forensic-based services offered by NFSU to CBDT, supporting the latter's mandate in direct tax administration. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to furthering cooperation in research, training, and infrastructure development for improved investigation outcomes.
