Union Home Secretary, Shri Govind Mohan inaugurated a one-day All India Conference on Forensic Science and Prosecution as the Chief Guest, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 15th May, 2026. Shri Alok Ranjan, IPS, Director General, BPR&D; Shri Prashant Lokhande, IAS, Additional Secretary(WS), MHA; Shri Satpal Chauhan, IES, D.G. Awards, MHA; Prof. (Dr.) S.O. Junare, In-charge Vice Chancellor of NFSU; Dr. S.K. Jain, Director-cum-Chief Forensic Scientist, DFSS and Shri C.D. Jadeja, Executive Registrar-NFSU, were present on the dais. Union Home Secretary, Shri Govind Mohan, addressed the gathering and highlighted that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and constant guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, the Government of India has outlined a clear roadmap to build one of the most advanced and scientifically robust criminal justice systems in the world. India’s criminal justice system rests on five pillars: Police, Forensics, Prosecution, Prisons, and Courts. For decades, these pillars have functioned in silos, limiting efficiency and coordination. The Ministry of Home affairs has convened a landmark conference to break these silos. Special focus is on integrating the prosecution and forensic pillars with the other three to build a seamless, modern justice system. Shri Prashant Lokhande, IAS, Additional Secretary (WS), Ministry of Home Affairs, delivered an address on “Strengthening Scientific Justice under the Nyaya Sanhitas,” highlighting the government’s commitment to building a modern, evidence‑driven criminal justice framework. Shri Alok Ranjan, IPS, Director General, Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), emphasized in his speech the need for stronger coordination, capacity building, and efficiency in the prosecution system to meet the evolving demands of justice delivery. Prof. (Dr.) S.O. Junare, In-charge Vice Chancellor of NFSU mentioned that following the AI 171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) set a record-breaking pace for DNA profiling to identify victims. NFSU has developed more than 20 Make-in-India products for forensic investigation through cutting edge research and innovation, to fulfill Vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Prof. (Dr.) Naveen Kumar Chaudhary, Director-Training; Prof. (Dr.) Satish Kumar, Campus Director, NFSU-Bhopal; Dr. Surbhi Mathur, Associate Professor, SFS and Dr. Nilay Mistry, Associate Professor actively participated in the conference, representing NFSU with excellence. At the Valedictory Ceremony, Shri Mayank Mishra, Director (WS), Ministry of Home Affairs, delivered the vote of thanks. The conference was attended by senior officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Directors General of Police, Law Secretaries, and Directors of Forensic Science Laboratories from various states across India.
